Rage Audio and Video

The Purple Principle
Certainly one of the favorite podcasts I’ve ever participated in The Purple Principle is dedicated to reducing partisanship in American political discourse. This one features a full-length interview with me, on the role that algorithms play in that polarisation. Click the image, then listen to episode 6 (from 08/2020) on your podcast provider.

The Cost of Love with Haley McGee
Along with The Purple Principle, this shares the prize for the best podcast I’ve ever been on. But it’s something completely different that offers something to anyone who has ever loved. Highly recommended to listen to my episode, then subscribe!

GCS Connect Leaders Series
Really interesting conversion with David Bloxham of GCS Recruitment in their leadership series, which is available both as a video and as a podcast. It was great to try and connect issues of leadership to ideas about AI.

Australia Institute Economics of A Pandemic Webinar
Entitled Edge of Chaos: How to Build Resilience into Our Democracy, this is one of my favorite events, covering a vital topic with Australia’s Shadow Minister for Innovation, Technology, and The Future of Work, Claire O’Neil, and Journalist and Campaigner Peter Lewis.

Women Own AI
Talk I’ve given to a number of groups based on a chapter in Rage, which describes the hidden history of women’s important presence in computing, decline of female computer scientists as The Internet rose, and what I hope is a more promising future for gender equality in the profession.
This version of the talk was presented as a part of a UCL series on women in computing.

Embracing Differences
with Nippin Anand, in an episode entitled Artificial Intelligence: Understanding The Bias Built Into Machines. A unique direction that the conversation goes towards is the issue of safety. Nippin is an expert of accident reporting, particularly around seagoing vessels. He and I share observations about how the schematization of communication, both in AI systems and in things like safety reporting, obscure human meaning.

This is one of my favorite podcasts that I’ve done, because the interviewer really got the book, and we ventured into some philosophical territory that I haven’t
discussed in any other venues.
